The teacher was asking for a variety of ways to make 16 and wanted to make sure she heard the student correctly when he gave her the repeated 2 equation. I thought that it was great idea of the teacher to see if someone could verify that it did make 16 and that student counted by 2s. Probing even deeper, the teacher solicited the grouping of two 2s to make a string of 4s and then doubling the 4s to make 8, and then doubling the 8s to make the 16. This created an awesome visual for the students to see the related ways to make 16 with equal sized groups of related numbers!
